National Open University admission requirements
These are the general requirements needed to gain admission into the National Open University of Nigeria.
Requirements for Undergraduate Programmes
Admission into 100 Level
To gain admission into 100 level at the National Open University of Nigeria for a B.Sc. programme, you must have a minimum of five credits in SSCE/NECO/GCE O’Level/NABTEB or its equivalent at a maximum of two sittings. These five credits must include credits in English Language, Mathematics and any other three subjects that are relevant to the course you are applying for.
Admission into 200 Level
To gain direct entry admission into 200 level you need to have the following:
Minimum of five credits in SSCE/NECO/GCE O’Level or its equivalent at a maximum of two sittings. These five credits must include credits in English Language, Mathematics and any other three subjects that are relevant to the course you are applying for.You need one of the following:
a) Upper Credit in a National Diploma from a recognized institutions.
b) A National Certificate in Education (NCE) in course relevant to the programme you are applying for with at least one merit and two passes.
c) International Baccalaureates, Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB) with a minimum of two A’Level papers in subjects relevant to the programme you are applying for.
Requirements for Postgraduate Programmes
To be able to gain the admission into any of the postgraduate programmes of the National Open University of Nigeria, you must have all the matriculation requirements of a minimum of five credits in SSCE/NECO/GCE O’Level including credits in Mathematics and English Language.
For admission into postgraduate diploma programmes, you must have a minimum Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognised University or a Higher National Diploma with at least Lower Credit. For admission into Postgraduate Diploma in Legislative Drafting, you must have been called to the Nigerian Bar. Also, applicants with professional qualifications like ACA, ACIA, ACIB, ACII, ACIS, etc. might be considered on individual merit for admission into the school of Business and Human Resource Management Postgraduate Diploma Programmes.
For the admission into Master’s programmes, you must have either one of the following:
At least a second class lower Bachelor’s Degree in the relevant discipline from a recognised University. However, applicants with a lower classification with a minimum of two years post qualification experience might be considered on individual merit.A Higher National Diploma with a minimum of Upper Credit in the relevant discipline.
An applicant with a membership certificate from a professional body relevant to the discipline can apply for the Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme.
For admission into Doctorate degree programme (Ph.D.), applicants must have a Master’s degree in relevant discipline of study from a recognised University with a minimum average score of not less than sixty percent (60%) or a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.5 on a 5-point scale.
